The Big Apple

"In the city!"

I always said that NYC smelled like garbage pretty much anywhere you go. Now that I've lived here for a little bit I realized that I was actually right about that -- but there are still some areas that don't smell too bad. Chelsea is one of those areas.

New York is a really fun place. I've been working at the Goog and exploring in my free time. I'm living in Chelsea, which is a really cool area -- tons of nightlife, always something going on, and friendly people.

The NY Google office is incredible! It's laid out like New York City, and there are scooters that you use to get around the building. I'm being fed better than I have ever been in my life. Gourmet meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, ecooper is very close to me in the office. I'm getting along with my team very well, and I'm excited about my project (which I'll paraphrase in another post).

I've been getting my erg fix at the NYSC gym right across the street from the Google offices. I live just a few blocks away up 8th avenue, so my daily routine is particularly triangle-shaped.

My first week at Google, all the interns and their hosts went to a Mets game. It was a good time and I had a chance to meet some of the other interns in the office. The most prominent project at NYC is Google Maps, so most of the interns were in Maps.

My first weekend in New York I went out for dinner with Scott and Betsy, and then to a party in Brooklyn. There was tons of good electronic music to be heard, and there was much dancing. The next weekend I went to LA for the Electric Daisy Carnival and I saw Tammy, but that's for another post.

Last week Christine Choi, a crew '09 came to visit, and we got lunch at the Goog and I gave her a tour. It was good to see her!

Tomorrow is Nessle's birthday, and next Thursday is mine! All in all, I'm settled in and loving it here. It's going to be a fun summer!
